Don’t just treat clogs, prevent clogs
Preventative drain maintenance can save you money and frustration over time.
Just as you would perform routine car maintenance to keep your car running smooth, performing routine drain maintenance keeps your drains flowing smooth. Being proactive by doing a few extra steps can go a long way to prevent costly drain issues in the future.
Is this safe to put down the drain?
If you have to ask yourself this question before putting it down the drain, then don’t. For example fats, oils and grease might pour easily into a drain but eventually fats, oils and grease will congeal inside the pipe and cause quite a stink – literally! Instead, pour fats, oils and grease in a sealed-container and toss out with the trash.
Can I put this in my garbage disposal?
Garbage disposals are handy contraptions that shred food waste into tiny pieces to easily flush down the drain; however, a garbage disposal is not a reason to put just anything down your drains.
Here are some items you definitely shouldn’t put in your garbage disposal:
Coffee grounds. Over time coffee grounds create sediment in the pipes which can lead to a blockage.
Pasta and rice. Both pasta and rice expand when exposed to water.
Nuts. Think peanut butter.
And non-biodegradable items such as glass and plastic.

What more can I do to prevent future clogs?
Here are additional actions you can take to keep your drains clog free:
Use a natural cleaner that uses healthy bacteria once a month. Natural cleaners are not only safe to use frequently but recommended. We recommend and use BioOne.
Run hot water down the kitchen sink after any meal cleanup to help food pieces flow through the drain.
Install mesh grates on kitchen sinks without garbage disposals, and on bathroom sinks and in showers to minimize hair and soap scum buildup.
Baking soda, vinegar and water have several preventative drain clean uses.
Schedule semiannual sewage system inspections, especially to check for tree roots.
Will I never have a clogged drain again?
Even with all the preventative maintenance in the world, clogs can and will still happen. When they do, Drain Titan is available 24 hour 7 days a week to help you when you need it most.
